2023 Chardonnay

Coastal Sonoma County and Santa Barbara County

Custom grown and vinified by our well-known sources under the guidance of Hunt & Ryde Winemaker Guy Davis

Vintage Notes:
The 2023 vintage in Sonoma and Santa Barbara is widely considered exceptional, with producers describing it as a “dream vintage” due to its excellent acidity, balanced fruit flavors, and long, cool growing season, resulting in wines with vibrant character and remarkable complexity, particularly for Chardonnay; this was largely attributed to a wet winter which provided ample water to the vines, leading to a delayed harvest compared to average years.

Vinification:
The grapes were sorted and whole-cluster pressed to barrel and tank, and received a 60-day fermentation. A portion of the juice was fermented and aged in French oak barrels to add some richness, spice notes and a smooth texture, along with an equal portion fermented in stainless steel, to express the purity and crisp expression of the fruit and the vineyards. The wine was then aged nine months in 30% Stainless and 70% French oak, 30% new, 30% second fill, and 40% neutral.

Tasting Notes:
Layered balance of crisp, mouth-watering citrus wrapped in nuances of pastry and baking spice, followed by a bright, yet rich finish.
